Exclusionary Contexts Frustrate Cultural Integration: Migrant Acculturation Into Support for Gender Equality in the Labor Market in Western Europe

Countering linear acculturation theories, the adoption of Western European gender customs over time differs across migrant groups. This diversity implies that into support for equality is context dependent. However, little quantitative scholarship has identified what sort contexts strengthen or impede acculturation. article investigates one source context-dependent acculturation: exclusionary contexts. I build and test a exclusions framework proposes exclude non-Western migrants hamper their in labor market Europe. Empirically, synchronize Social Survey, Values Study, Eurislam data on 11,000 Cross-classified models show migrants’ labor-market is, indeed, lower contexts, instance, destinations with stronger anti-migrant sentiments. Altogether, highly dependent contextual exclusions, which means claims about universal lack should be viewed cautiously.
